The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Samuhik Vivah Yojana (Mass Marriage Scheme) in October 2017 with the aim of promoting social and communal harmony. This initiative seeks to organize weddings that respect the diverse customs and traditions of various communities and religions. Another key objective of the scheme is to curb the unnecessary extravagance and opulence often associated with traditional marriage ceremonies.

The scheme is open to families from all communities whose annual income does not exceed Rs 2,00,000 from all sources. Under this program, a financial assistance of Rs 35,000 is directly credited to the bride’s bank account to help set up her new home. Additionally, essential wedding items, including apparel, jewelry, and utensils, are provided with an allocation of Rs 10,000. Furthermore, Rs 6,000 is earmarked for miscellaneous wedding expenses. In total, each marriage under this scheme receives a financial assistance of Rs 51,000.

Under this scheme, provisions are made to organize Samuhik Vivah (Mass Marriages) for a minimum of 10 couples at various administrative levels, including urban bodies (Nagar Panchayat, Nagar Palika Samiti, Municipal Corporation), as well as at the Kshetra Panchayat and Zila Panchayat levels.

  • An amount of up to Rs 10,000 is allocated for purchasing wedding essentials, including clothes, jewellery, utensils, and more.
